What is Forest’s ‘Friends of the Forest’ discount scheme?

Friends of the Forest is Forest's (formerly HumanForest) discount scheme, available to certain groups and communities across London. Members of Friends of the Forest are able to enjoy 50% off Pay As You Go (PAYG)  rides with Forest. 

Who can access Forest’s discount scheme?

Discounted rides are currently available to the following groups:

  • Students
  • NHS Workers 
  • Other Key Workers (Emergency Services)
  • Pensioners
  • Job seekers or those on lower income
  • Disability card holders

How to Apply to Friends of the Forest

In order to access your discounted rates, you’ll need to apply first. Follow the steps below to unlock 50% off PAYG rides. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Download the Forest app. In order to ride Forest bikes, you’ll need to download the app. If you haven’t done this already, you can download the app here or by searching ‘Forest bikes’ in the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Login or Create an account. Enter your details and your payment method.
  3. Go to the Forest menu, and tap ‘Free Minutes’ . Scroll down to ‘Get Discounts’. Tap Get Discounts’
  4. Upload your ID card. Make sure your name is clearly visible, the ID is valid and in date. You can check the list below of accepted ID cards.
  5. Take a selfie with your ID. Upload a photo of yourself with your ID next to your face for us to check if it's you!
  6. Hit ‘submit’. Our Support and Community team will then verify your request, and you’ll be able to enjoy discounted rates! This should be confirmed within 48 hours.*

What forms of ID are accepted?

Below are the  forms of ID currently accepted to enjoy ‘Friends of the Forest’ discounts. If your ID card is not on the below list, get in touch with the Forest team and we’ll see what we can do.

For Students:

  • NUS student card
  • Student ID Card (College or University-specific)
  • 18+ Student Oyster card
  • Apprentice Oyster card

For Key Workers:

  • Blue Light Card (for emergency service workers)
  • Other eligible key worker IDs and passes

For Pensioners:

  • 60+ London Oyster Card
  • Freedom Pass (including Disabled Persons Freedom Pass)

For Disabilities or carers:

  • Freedom Pass (including Disabled Persons Freedom Pass)
  • National Disability Card and National Carers Card

For Jobseekers or low income riders: 

  • Jobcentre Plus Travel Card
  • Other free or discounted travel cards for the Greater London Area.
  • Freedom Pass (including Disabled Persons Freedom Pass)

Borough-specific:

  • Wandsworth Access for All digital card
  • Richmond UK Card Fairer Access Card
